This 9 session, two hour class will meet Wednesday evenings, 6:30-8:30pm, from April 17, 2024 through June 12, 2024.

This class is only open to students who have taken my or Phil’s Intro to Drawing at The Drawing Studio in the past.

The two big goals of Intro 2 are:

—to get you back to big explorations in your drawing and to encourage you to keep the drawing loose for as long as possible

—to strengthen your seeing, especially when it comes to three dimensions.

After mostly drawing from a mirror and photos in Intro 1, in Intro 2 we will use our own bodies, still life objects, and a model to get more practice drawing from life and thinking in three dimensions. Exercises will range from different ways of looking at and making sense of form, to drawing in ways that intentionally remove your sense of control to allow in new experiments and find new and unexpected marks. This time around we will spend two weeks on each concept, starting first with a still life set up and moving the following week to a model. About half of the class, about every other week will use a live model.

My hope is that through these exercises you can begin or continue to find your own way of finding and making sense of something as complex as a live model.

MATERIALS: Class will mostly use charcoal and graphite, please bring your own drawing supplies. On days when we use alternative media like ink I will supply the materials. 

CANCELLATION POLICY:

If you cancel 24 hours or more before class starts, I will refund you the cost of class minus $12 for the credit card processing fee.

Otherwise you have two classes to decide if you want to stay in class. If you tell me you want a refund by the end of the second class, I will refund you the cost of class minus $70.
